Abstract

Under the heavy shadow of the ecological crisis and with the risk of it becoming fate, governments continue to operate on the mad principle of unlimited growth on a finite planet, while arming themselves against external enemies they incessantly invent. At the same time, they are being questioned or dissolved as guarantors of Law and Order by their own citizens, who nevertheless continue to participate in “growth” or are killed in the wars orchestrated by these governments. Everyone feels that “nothing can be done”. The past teaches nothing, the future is cancelled, and only the present exists. With the help of the ideas of Lacan, Mark Fisher and Alain Badiou, an attempt is made to understand this condition -particularly in the Greek context- and to articulate some fragments of thought on what the Alternative might be.
