Abstract

Extracts from a Zoom discussion between Thomas Mavrofides and Fany Triantafillou. Thomas Mavrofides talks about the form of the “corona virus crisis,” and its profound systemic nature. He examines how this crisis is related to the concept of the functionally differentiated society and describes the consequences the latter has on our daily life. He questions the demands of modernity, deconstructs the (allegedly) transcendent commitment to a just society, and suggests we come to terms with a society that is finally bound to fail, bound to set new goals, and always move (but never reach) a horizon set up by modernity.
