Marilena Karamatsuki, Dprof, is a psychologist and systemic psychotherapist in private practice in Pefki, Attica. Her interest revolves around the therapeutic relationship. Her PhD from the University of Bedfordshire was about the relational space between client and therapist and within the therapist.

Abstract

This article reflects the complexity of the therapeutic process in times of social, political and economic crisis. I present a story based on an incident that occurred during a session with a client in my private office. As a systemic therapist, I am particularly interested in the therapeutic relationship. My doctoral research focuses on the relational space between therapist and client, as well as within the therapist. As my study concerns my professional activity, I use auto-ethnographic writing as a means of reflection and research. It isn't just a story about me; it's about how therapists use themselves and the importance of self-reflexivity, relational reflexivity, and transparency of the therapist. I aim to break the silence and encourage therapists to expand their thinking and talk about things we don't usually discuss. I present ideas about how therapists can navigate through the therapeutic process within a systemic framework. In doing so, I hope readers will make their own thoughts along with my own observations.
