Abstract
Book Presentation by Dimitris Mouzas of the book "Systemic Therapy as Transformative Practice" by Imelda McCarthy & Gail Simon
As Monica McGoldrick says in the foreword of the book, we need more systemic thinking, as this has evolved in the last fifty years, in our lives, in our everyday therapeutic practices and in our transformations. In fact, the editors of the book have successfully managed to do this by inviting and coordinating both systemic and post-systemic transformative ideas from all over the world. At a time when fragmentation dominates both in society in general and the mental health domain in particular, especially through the isolation of individuals from their social context as main carriers of symptoms and the pressure for measurable and categorizable results, the authors manage to link the systemic therapeutic paradigm with the wider social, economic, technological context that is changing dramatically and rapidly.
